Not that it really matters much, but isn't this movie separate from the Bay-verse films, so wouldn't be beholden to them plot armor wise?

I have no idea.

I assumed all 7 movies to date were in the same "universe" but just the last 2 have been prequels.

Bay's a producer on "Beasts" so that kinda implies they're connected.

Pretty sure they’re all connected. I mean why wouldn’t they be?

Yup.

Though the new one also attempts
a connection to GI Joe - which might be the reason they set "Beasts" in 1994. To launch a "GI Joe" reboot?

The plan is for a future crossover movie featuring both Transformers and GI Joe.

Well yeah - that much is obvious. My question was more whether they'd try to
formally reboot the GI Joe franchise.

Audiences don't seem in love with either one at this point. Actually, the Joe series never did all that well, as both of the 1st 2 movies made $375m WW, which seems low for a series like that.

And then "Snake Eyes" was a massive flop.

The Transformers films are way down from the series' peaks and it feels unlikely that mojo will be recovered.

Will anyone actually want to see a Joe/Transformers movie? These aren't 2 franchises firing on all cylinders in recent years.
