I am taking delivery of a Toshiba 57' h82 today and wondered what I can expect from my set. I had a Hitachi that I got, but was not satisfied, so I am trading it for this one. My big gripe with the hitachi was its stretch modes for 4:3 materia. It seemed to me the theatre wide settings to a lot better job. However I have read on some boards that they are problematic

Toshiba makes very good stretch modes, right behind Pioneer. I ended up getting a Pioneer Elite, and while looking, this is how I felt on the best overall sets.

1. Pioneer
2. Mitsubishi
3. Toshiba

What I don't like at the toshibas is that they upconvert both 480i and 480p to 540p and add some artificats in so doing. At the stores I visted, Panasonics did not look good, but I hear they can be tweaked pretty well. I liked Hitachi on HD but thought the stretch modes were really bad.
