Warner Home Video has finally announced a Region 1 release for the long-delayed The Iron Giant: Special Edition.

Due on the already bloated September 7th, this classic will arrive with an all-new anamorphic widescreen transfer and DD5.1 tracks. Special features will include scene-specific commentary (Brad Bird, Jeffrey Lynch, Steve Markowski and Tony Fucile), eight "never-before-seen" deleted scenes (including an alternate opening), thirteen "Behind the Armor" mini-documentaries highlighting key sequences, "The Voice Of The Giant" featurette hosted Vin Diesel, a motion gallery of original animation, a letter from Ted Hughes -author of the original book, easter eggs, DVD-ROM material and trailers.

Retail is a cheap $19.97

It looks exactly the same as the previously available R3 Special Edition available from Korea.

(although the letter from Ted Hughes was an easter egg on that release.)

They've cried wolf on this one so many times, I'm not sure I'll believe it 'til I see it on shelves.;)

This is a modern animation classic. Outside of the Pixar films and the Shrek films, its the best animated movie since Beauty and the Beast. That's right, it's better than any Disney animated movie of the last decade or so.

On a side note, my roomate jokingly refers this a porn movie. Why? Look at the title and that's all you need to know. :)

I can't wait to have this in my hands. I wish I made more money than I do so I could get a bunch of DVD's for the next million years or so.

Looks like I've got another title to put on my "to buy" list.

Bloated September 7 is right! Actually the whole month is going to be a wallet buster!

When I told my friends about the "Triplets of Belleville" they thought something similar :)

really? IIRC this disc has been done and pressed for a long time, and it's the same transfer as the old flipper.

Let's hope this actually gets released this time. I, along with others, dumped my original copy last summer when this SE was announced by the studio (with cover art, etc.) for a release last August(I believe). Needless to say, the studio pulled this off of their release schedule only a short time later with little or no official explanation:frowning: The kicker was that I believe this SE has been available in other regions for quite some time now.

The transfer (i.e. film to some digital video high-def format, anamorphic) could still be the same, but a new encoding made from it.

Definitely one of the most underrated animated movies ever. My family has been wearing out the VHS copy waiting for a better release. Hope they stick with this date and we should be able to get our hands on this for a bit over $10 (thinking positively).

When they removed this from the release schedule before, I nearly wept. Almost like I usually end up doing at that last '...Superman...' in the film itself... I've truly died and gone to heaven...

In less than a month's time (Sept7-Oct5), I'll have...

Hitch Collection
Star Wars OT
THX-1138: DC
Shawshank Redemption: SE
Iron Giant: SE

Plus then the Incredibles in theaters a month later

Life is good. Everybody dance.

This is amazing news! I have been waitint for WB to rescedule this. Behind Batman: Mask of the Phantasm and infront of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, this is one of my favorite animated movie.

I hope so - the original encoding had quite a bit of mosquito noise. Not as much as the unfortunate Disney Platinum of Beauty And The Beast, but still distracting on larger monitors.

Looking forward to IG: SE!

Cheers,

If it's the same transfer I wonder then if it was merely delayed to tie in with "The Incredibles" (Brad Bird directing).
