Just hit the link and it appears they raised the price up to $49.98. :frowning: It appears they changed the "WAS" price from $69.95 to $99.95 but left the 50% discount. I hate when companies pull that kind of stuff...

That happened in the last couple hours, as I looked at that this morning and was seriously considering it at the $35 price. Now, at $50 - I don't know. That is a cheap move by A&E, I agree.

I just sent a comment to the online store complaining about this cheap tactic. Let's see if they respond.

It's ridiculous when etailers pull this kind of crap.

I've read that at least one person was successful in getting A&E Shop to honor the $35 price by calling (1-888-423-1212 and then choose option 1).

I'm not a fan of the show, so I'm not interested in buying it. If I was interested I would definitely call A&E Shop and try to get them to honor the $35 sale pricing. I believe that what there are doing deceptive advertising. Note that the A&E page does not state "MSRP: $99.95", but instead states "Was: $99.95". A quick review of the Google cached page shows in fact that it was NOT $99.95, but in actuality was $69.95 on May 22, 2007.

Here's a link to the Google cached page:
http://www.google.com/search?q=cache:tMJISaXXCQ8J:store.aetv.com/html/product/index.jhtml%3Fid%3D72952+a%26e+monty+python+16+ton &hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=3&gl=us

In addition, I saved a PDF version of the Google cached page:
AETV Monty Python Google Cached

If you really want this DVD set, you should get it at the $35 price since they are advertising the 50% sale. I'd recommend calling, being insistent on the 50% discount from the $70 price (refer to their price on May 22, 2007 as evidenced by Google cached page), and don't take no for an answer.

Good luck to any and all willing to try.

You might want to mention that their price really "Was: $69.95" as of May 22, 2007 (and not the $99.95 they now state).

I did mention that the price "was" $69.95, not $99.95, but did not mention the date, and then said that they were basically lying by saying that the price was $99.95. I then said that I would no longer buy anything from them if this represents regular practice for them. Maybe I should do the phone call route to get a more immediate response.

Just bought it for $35!

I called the store and complained, the guy said that it was an initial pricing error by A&E, I said that it was deceptive and I would not order it, then he gave it to me for the cheaper price.

Anybody else wanting it for cheaper should call them now too.

[CalliopeMusic]What a circus - A&E Shop has dropped the "Was" price back to $69.95 on their web-site (link in OP), so it's back to $34.95 with the 50% sale / savings.[/CalliopeMusic]

Anyone who is interested in this, get it now . . . before they change it again.

This is one of the first non-DDD sales I've actually caught and purchased in the right amount of time! yah!

I've only seen select portions of Monty Python series, and absouletly love the films - and have contemplated purchasing the $120 set over the last few years, and this is a definate go ahead sign! ;) I picked up some extra stuff - the sales tax sucks a bit, but it's still saving a whole heck of a lot!

Thanks for the heads up!!!

Anybody else get a "Notice of shipment delay" from A & E on this order?

This is what their message to me said:

Since I called them on their switcheroo with the original price and they subsequently had to sell it at the lower price (I'm sure others influenced that decision too ;) ), I wonder if this is an attempt to see if I will cancel my order. If so, then that is a battle they will lose - I can wait for my dvds.

OTOH, it most likely is due to the fact that they had to sell it for less than they had originally planned (according to the guy at the store that I called) and so they had more demand than expected.

A few days ago I also received the shipment delay notice, didn't respond, and a couple hours later received an item shipped email!

Considering that amazon and deepdiscount both list the suggested price of this at 99.95, I think the 69.95 list originally stated was a typo. It's certainly not fair to call it a lie.

Maybe they normally sell at 69.95 and meant to have a sale at 50% off list price, not regular price. How many retailers ever have DVDs half off their usual prices?

I too got the email. It's not a big deal - I can wait. ;)

Although I am still super excited. Thanks again for the heads up, I appreciate it!

Read the earlier posts in the thread for the full story regarding the $69 vs. $99 list price issue. The $69 originally posted was a mistake, which was explained to me when I called the A & E store. That's fine; the problem is that they stated that it was $99 and was now 50% off, but it was not $99 before that but $69 as the google cache page shows.
