Sears Proformance Turntable (1 Viewer)

My uncle left me a Sears Proformance turntable Model 564.97990350. I have a moderate amount of vinyl that I would like to play when I can get my system together. Does anyone know who manufactured this turntable? Is it worth using or should I move on? Wonder if anyone knows the manufacturer part # so I can get a cartridge, etc. for it. Thanks in advance

Do you have a picture? That would help a great deal. Panasonic/Technics OEMed a lot of department store brands in the late 70s and early 80s, as did Fisher - my brother has a late 70's Fisher/Sears receiver that continues to work very well. It's possible that this turntable is usable. It's also possible that it's crap.

If it's P-mount the head will have a little "T4P" logo and you can put any P-mount cart in plug and play. Otherwise if it's standard mount all bets are off, I don't know how to alighn them correctly, but someone else may be able to help or you can google that information.

Is it direct drive or belt drive? If the latter you'll probably need a new drive belt.

Dont know much about Sears TT's... so no opinion on those.

Do you need an entire cartrige or just stylus? If it's just the stylus, the model is typically on the cart somewhere. If you need a cart find out the type, P-mount or standard mount. There are other but less common. Most very basic carts with stylus go for under $20, if you just need something that works. I just bought a cheap Audio Technica cart at garage-a-records.com and quite happy with it, but this was not for my main system as there are much better carts out there.

If you go to http://www3.sears.com/orderstatus.html and enter the model number there is still a list of available parts etc... just put the Model number 564.97990350 in the Search by model number
