Hey all,
I have a Pioneer Elite 100W. I'm looking at some speakers, B&W CM9, that I understand may take more power to drive. Does that mean I'd have to go the Power amp, pre-amp, tuner route? is there any way that I can add power to my current system?

Thanks!

The B&W CM9 are 8 ohm speakers with an 89 sensitivity rating, which is fairly forgiving. The Pioneer Elite 100W drives 40w @ 4 ohms. (nice that it supports 4 ohm speakers which are harder to drive). While it's not overly powerful it should be fine to get started, and if you don't like the volume go from there. Also, since you're only driving two speakers, you won't be getting that extra draw for center and surounds.

But no, that amp can't be expanded , so if you want to upgrade you'll have to get a new receiver/amp. You don't need to go the complete separates route with a pre-amp and tuner; just a bigger amp or a receiver.
