Doug Ingle, founder of Iron Butterfly, died at age 78. The band's 'In-a-Gadda-Da-Vida' was the title track of an LP that spent 81 weeks in the top 10.

I was a fan of IB from virtually the beginning. "Iron Butterfly Theme" on their first album, Heavy, always felt to me to be the very definition of "acid rock". While not dismissing any of the other members, Ingle was the heart and soul of Iron Butterfly, and I think was primarily responsible for the band's style and tone.
