I have received and watched the UK edition, released two weeks ago. It's been six years since the last series and the scale and scope is still unprecedented. As expected, the Greatest Nature Series on the planet is presented again in reference-level 4K quality. Projected onto a big screen, it is beyond spectacular. It is enormously reassuring that David Attenborough, at 97 years of age, is still narrating the series. However, this time round, the impending devastation of our nature is brought to the fore throughout. “We must now look at the world through a new lens,” Attenborough says, at the beginning. We cannot then look away from the devastating effects of the climate crisis. It must have been horrifying and sad for him to have gone back to the same locations he filmed in 1957, and seen the changes wrought onto the habitat. A darker mood this time, but essential watching.
