This a set of reviews of the 54 DVD´s I own.
The first one is Deep Impact, which i brought in expectations of buying myself a DVD player.
I brought it on 1999 and i didn´t have my player until September of 2000.
So here is my review.
DEEP IMPACT
Film: :star: :star: :star: :star:
Picture::star: :star: :star: :star: :star:
Sound: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star:
Features:star: :star: :star:
FILM: If there was a thing that was noticeable during the 1996-2000 period was that 2 or more movies were made about the same there.
1996:Alien invasions: Mars Attacks and Independence Day
1997:More alien things: Contact and Men In Black, also the year of the volcano: Volcano and Dante´s Peak
1998:Asteroids:Deep Impact and Armageddon...
If there was a thing noticeable is that one film was better than the other. In this case Deep Impact is the winner.
As much as i love Armageddon, Deep Impact lacks the cartoonish mode of the film, also it truly does make you care about the characters.
Also it dosen´t care to having 2 hours of non stop action to blow away people out of their seats.
But Deep Impact does have its flaws:First is that sometimes is a bit too oversentimantalist, not to mention a few sappy dialouge also a bit of bad acting times.
But aside from this, i thought that it was very good.
The clear winner of the two.
PICTURE: This DVD was made back in the days were Anamorphic Widescreen didn´t exist.
In spite of that this is a very, very, very good transfer.
Colors are rich, blacks are perfect, Flesh-tones are accurate and natural.
Edge-ehnancement is very minimal, in fact almost unoticeable.
Also there were a few minor print flaws here and there but nothing important.
Also a bit of pixelation. Yet this remains as a very good transfer.
SOUND: The Dolby 5.1 is amazing, in fact it almost surpasses the visceral experience of the Armageddon soundtrack.
Dialouge is crystal clear, Fidelity is very good.
Also the music by James Horner sounds excellent.
Very good.
FEATURES: Only 2 trailers, but very entertaining ones.
CONCLUSION: Deep Impact is higly recommended. Period.
