Looking to upgrade from Yamaha 795a to either a Yamaha 1400/1500 or Denon 2805.

My speakers are PSB 5T's 2B's and 9C and Mirage BPS-400 Sub.

I am leaning to the denon...

Thanks.

I used a Yamaha RXV-1400 for about 3 weeks and now have the 2805. Both are very nice recievers with lots of nice features. They both have very good sound and lots of power. I also once owned an RXV795.

I've found the Denon to be easier to use. It has 3 component inputs vs 2 for the Yamaha.

The Denon has somewhat more detailed sound. Dialogue intelligibility is better.

Yamaha has better dsp modes, they take them seriously and do them better than any other mfg, the only usable dsp modes imho.

If you enjoy the dsp modes on your 795 I'd go for another Yammie. If they are of no importance to you, I prefer the 2805.

My main reasons for swapping the 1400 for the 2805 were the difficult user interface on the 1400 coupled with an incompatibility with my Zenith DVB-318 which caused occasional very brief audio dropouts during complex surround active scenes.
