My onkyo receiver HDMI ports are slowly failing..know issue to many Onkyo folks... So for similar amount of money, (?) $800-$1k, what preamp/amp combo might i be looking for? Onkyo TX 706 PS3 HSU 15 Hybrid speakers (w/ VTF15 subwoofer) Samsung 57" LCD

HDMI pre-pros are over your budget by themselves. Unless you buy used. And the only ones you are likely to find are Onkyo/Integra. The HDMI 1.3 pre-pros are routinely found for $650-$950 on the used market. The HDMI 1.4 are $1000+.
