Onkyo SR600 vs SR800? (1 Viewer)

Hello, just wanted some opinions on if i should upgrade from my current onkyo sr600 to the sr800. I like the thx certs, dts 96-24, 7.1 on the sr800 but will it be worth my time and money to get it compared to my sr600? thanks

That really depends on your future use. You'll probably get 5 different answers from 5 different people....

IMHO THX Cert. means nothing other than extra cost for licensing.
How much material is available that is dts 96/24?
Same with 7.1, do you plan on getting more speakers to take advantage of it?

I had similar questions when I was originally looking at the SR700, but decided on an older 696 (didn't need any optical out) and will go for a 3 or 5 channel amp at a later stage and use the Onkyo for Pre/Pro.

The (newer) Onkyo's are notorious for overrating their power o/p - eg. my 696 rated at 100W was tested by Sound & Vision to be 46W all channels driven, so in my case I am quite happy to go for an outboard amp as the receiver does quite nicely otherwise.
