One of the items on disc 3 sounds like an extra from
Criterion's 8 1/2. The documentary on Nino Rota.
I will hope a review of the 3 disc gives run times,
then we can compare.

The Nino Rota documentary on the 3-disc La Dolce vita is not the same piece from the Criterion 8-1/2. This has been confirmed by DVD producer Tim Hinsley:

I don't think there is any reason to get angry here. This isn't a real double dip title, it is more of a specialty, collectors item. For people who think that LA DOLCE VITA is the greatest film ever made, and really want every piece of memorabilia they can get.

The average DVD buyer isn't going to buy it again, especially at that price. And, the studio isn't expecting them too. You probably won't even be able to find it in most stores.

I saw four of them at Best Buy last night, at close to full retail price. I passed.

The box itself is a rather awful amateurish and cartoonish looking replica of the orginal poster art.

I had a similar feeling towards the cover - that looks nothing like Anita Ekberg, and it's actually kind of dopey looking.
