Kanto Audio has introduced two new speakers, the YU Passive 5.25” ($199 per pair) and YU Passive 4” speakers ($159 per pair), both of which are designed for use as surround speakers in a home theater setup or as part of a TV or stereo audio system. Promising to deliver “high-performance sound and outstanding value”, both are available now in black, while white models will arrive in June.
The YU Passive 5.25″ includes a Kevlar woofer and 1-inch silk dome tweeter, and the YU Passive 4″ has a 4-inch woofer and 1-inch silk-dome tweeter. The models measure 10.7″ (H) by 6.9″ (W) by 8.1″ (D) and 8.7″ (H) by 5.5″ (W) by 7.5″ (D), respectively, and both speakers use the same drivers as the Kanto YU6 and YU4 active speakers to produce “clear sound” and “precise imaging”.

So, have powered (active) speakers become so commonplace, that we must now refer to regular speakers as “passive” speakers?:confused:

It's actually because, according to the press materials, Kanto is 'renowned' for its active speakers, although the jury could be out on that one.
