does anyone have this album?

reviews, recommendations?

I am looking for more of her after listening to her covers in STANDING IN THE SHADOWS OF MOTOWN - bloody amazing, and the best of the lot.

I like St. Theresa.

thanks

This is a nice album of Joan's, its all covers of some well known songs. She is a great interperter of music so its fun to hear her take on some of these popular pop classics.

If you do not have any Joan already, you want to start with:
1) Relish * * * * *
2) Righteous Love * * * 1/2
3) How Sweet it Is * * *

hmmm,

I wasn't impressed by the preview tracks for RIGHTEOUS LOVE.
I preferred HowSII, but not that much more (only 5 on Amazon).

I'll wait for more reviews.

thanks

Ditto on what Michael says!
Relish is one of my favorites, and they must have pressed a billion of them, cuz you can find one in almost every used shop.

If you like Joan Osborne, get Relish! Very tasty!:)

Great album, I saw her live this past Thursday in Greenville,S.C., when she opened for the Dixie Chicks, she is great live, her voice is amazing, and she dances pretty well too.

I give it a very high recommendation.

Osborne has one of the most underrated voices in music today. One of those cases where the hit (One of Us) in no way, shape or form represents the catalog.

As cover albums go, this is one of the best current examples. Song selection is exemplary, as are the reinterpretations. Especially her take on Edwin Starr's "War," essentially slowing it down and turning it into a torch number. Also love her version of "Smiling Faces" with Isaac Hayes. Quite cool.

Do yourself a favor...don't use 30 second song samples on Amazon. I gave them a listen and to be honest, they weren't very well chosen samples...esp on "Smiling Faces." Instead, next time you're at a music shop that lets you try before you buy, give it a spin.

well,

I'm in Fiji, and there are no decent music outlets.
I always order off the net, or travel overseas (2-3 times a year).

her performance of WHAT BECOMES OF THE BROKENHEARTED on DVD just blows me away.

last time I felt that way was her Letterman perf. of ST. THERESA.

I'm not familiar with most of the tracks on HSII, so it may be a nice treat.

thanks

Her cover of Stevie Wonder's Love's in need of Love today off of How Sweet It Is is very good.

I definitely agree with that. This is the best performance on Standing in the Shadows..... None of the perforances on How Sweet It Is quite reach this level, but it is still a good CD, IMO. Relish is still her best CD.
