I remember very specifically reading interviews that were done with Stanley Kramer at the time of the "extended" laser disc's release. Apparently he was very involved with the project, and did work directly with the guy at MGM who supervised the mad world disc (packaging says his name was Renny Johnson). I seem to also recall Kramer being on Entertainment Tonight talking about the laser disc, and how glad he was that they had found more of the footage.
So, whatever one might think of the film, or the presentation, it was done with the director's input and approval.
Personally, I thought the LD was terrific, and I'll pass on this hybrid DVD.

Must agree with Ken above...I never owned a laser disc player, so I'm really excited about this DVD...if a better version comes out in the future, I'll buy it again.
Those of us that are going to buy it shouldn't get flamed for it, however....
