I was looking at my Playstation 2's main menu tonight, and when I got to the DVD part, it asked what region I was in. The default was of course America, but it also had about 7-8 other countries from around the world. Now I'm assuming that if I set it to China, that I can play DVD's from China's region correct? All I have are region 1 discs so I can't test it. Does anybody know for sure?

It probably operates much like a DVD-ROM drive, where it can play several regions and then locks down on one region after so many discs (like three or so).
    *Edit*
Seems there is a third party disc you can buy that lets you use any region DVDs on your PS2.

That menu is to select the language for the menus. It doesn't change the DVD region.
