If this thread gets long enough, I was thinking of posting a small statistical analysis of the responses. Though they won't be conclusive, it will be interesting to see which movies are the members' favorites.
Looking forward to hearing more of your responses!

Well you don't specify whether I can keep my old lasers and still see the films on tv or not, but assuming this is a desert island sort of thing, I'd pick the following five:
The Apartment
Rear Window
Toy Story
Planes, Trains & Automobiles
A Hard Day's Night
If you allow imaginary box sets:
The Billy Wilder Collection
The Alfred Hitchcock Collection
The Disney Collection
The Steve Martin Collection
The Beatles Collection
:)

Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace
Terminator 2: Judgment Day - The Ultimate Edition
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs - Platinum Edition
The Fantasia Anthology
Toy Story: The Ultimate Toy Box

Not necessarily the top films I own on DVD, but they're the DVDs I've gotten the most out of.

This was much tougher than I thought:
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Fight Club
Rushmore: CC
Seven Samurai: CC
Ultimate Toy Box

Had to leave a lot of great movies behind in order to take the best overall DVD packages.
