I've had so much bad experiences with Samsung so I want to steer clear from their product. Any other major manufacturer offer this kind of stuff? (Philips, Sony, Panasonic). Maybe in the near future?

I've tested Bravo, PQ is not very good. I'd rather use my RP-91 for that since the PQ is only slightly better than the RP-91.

Anything else with PQ at least as good as the Sammy?

I gave up getting an internal scaler in a DVD player. For $800 you can get the Philips 963 DVD/SACD player with 108MHz video DACs, AND the AVtoolbox AV-3700 scaler. The AV-3700 takes interlaced component video from the Philips and scales it to (on YPrPb) 720p or 1080i, and (on VGA/RGBHV) to various standard SVGA and XVGA resolutions. And the picture quality from the Philips/AVT combination is marvelous. I'm using it to drive my Marquee 8501LC with good results.
