Help with HD connections and optical sound for XBox (1 Viewer)

LOL, It seems to get more difficult each time I try to upgrade. I just bought a new surround sound system, fully compatable with everything. I had the S video connection with the standard analog sound plugs. I just heard I am missing out on the full sound capacity, so I bought the HD adaptor from Xbox that has the opti cable for 5.1 and DTS. The big problem is I have an normal s video tv, not HD. So not my reciever is sending sound to the speakers but my TV gets nada. Question being, can I plug HD cables into my reciever and somehow get S video or any video out to my non HD TV? Thanks!

Use an "Advanced" AV Pack for your Xbox, instead. It has S-Video and an Optical out.
