Did they do the same thing with the (I believe) Digibook release many years back? I own it. I just don't feel like going upstairs to check.

Yes, the new one is the same as the old release. Blu-ray for 2001 edition, DVD for the theatrical version.
It seems they wanted to cut out the nutty fans in the special edition. What can I say? - I'm a nutty fan!!
