Why is there no support for DVD-RAM?

I picked up the Panasonic DVD-ES10 Multi DVD Recorder because using DVD-RAM allows you to Edit your Recordings but it's not supported, I have to go out of my way to but DVD-RAM disc.

What's the problem? I also got a Mac Mini and now I want an External Burner and even with computers, it's still not supported.

There are DVD-Multi drives for the PC that will read and write DVD-RAM along with DVD-R/RW, but I don't know if they're available for the Mac yet. If you can't or don't want to go the computer drive route, one alternative is stepping up to a set-top unit that supports DVD-RAM and has a hard drive. This would allow you to edit and then burn to regular DVD-R for viewing on regular players.
