Well you can't fight in here ... this is the WAR ROOM !Me, too, and perhaps it's coming.
That Columbia set looked tempting, but I really dislike DR. STRANGELOVE. I never "got" the humor in it.
However, LAWRENCE OF ARABIA is perhaps the best 4k stream I have seen. It looks breathtakingly beautiful in 4k. I would certainly buy the standalone disc despite already owning the streamed version.
The scene where George C. Scott tells the President, with inappropriate amusement and enthusiasm, that the U.S. may have started a war with Russia is one of the great scenes in any film.Well you can't fight in here ... this is the WAR ROOM !

I wouldn't make that assumption based on one film.Dark humor just must be lost to you, as how can anyone not like/love Dr. Strangelove? The movie hits the ground running from it's iconic "pornographic" main titles with Laurie Johnson's instrumental version of Try A Little Tenderness to it's even more iconic ending of bombs exploding to Vera Lyn's We'll Meet Again.
Strangelove is fine enough on Criterion. The elements probably aren't good enough to survive the scrutiny of UHD either.

Scott is hilarious!"If the pilot's good, see, I mean if he's reeeally sharp, he can barrel that baby in so low... oh you oughta see it sometime. It's a sight. A big plane like a '52... varrrooom! Its jet exhaust... frying chickens in the barnyard!"
In this film, George C. Scott is funnier than all three Peter Sellers roles combined!
I disagree with you as I think it looks great on 4K disc. Our reviewer also agrees with me. Furthermore, reviews on other sites concur with that opinion.Yeah I'd buy a 4k of Aurens in a heartbeat.

Scott is AWESOME, for sure, although I think my favorite actor in this film has got to be Sterling Hayden. He steals EVERY single scene he's in."If the pilot's good, see, I mean if he's reeeally sharp, he can barrel that baby in so low... oh you oughta see it sometime. It's a sight. I agree. The way Sellers plays Mandrake throughout the conversation. You watch as Mandrake comes to realize just how nuts Ripper is, how it plays across his face, and the film's positioning that Mandrake may be the only sane man in the entire movie.Scott is AWESOME, for sure, although I think my favorite actor in this film has got to be Sterling Hayden. "I can no longer sit back and allow Communist infiltration, Communist indoctrination, Communist subversion and the international Communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids."
This whole exchange between Ripper and Mandrake is positively brilliant.
