Do I have enough room for a 7.1 set up with a 15x12 room? (1 Viewer)

I will be using 4 s38's for rears and I will have 5 feet of space behind my couch. Is this enough room to do the 7.1 thing? If so, could I get great effect putting these speakers even with my fronts or should I go higher? I dont know how high I can go with these cause they are fairly big for bookshelves. Mounting not an option. What do you think?

Todd,

When I was shoping for my surround and rear speakers the literature that I looked at from the various mfg's all stated that for the best results the surround speakers should be 2-3" above and slightly behind the listener, and the rears should be at the same height as the surrounds. Obviously not every room is set up to allow for perfect placement. Experiment with the location until it sounds good to you.

The S38s are quite large...even the S26's are large by my standard. I think the S38 might be pushing it for 7.1 in a room that size, but will definitely be room filling. The s38 must weigh at least 25+ lbs also, which should be a consideration. Personally, I think they are overkill.
