Can I use something like this as speaker stands with good results?

They will be holding B&W DM600 S3's.

for some small speakers... very small bookshelves or minis probably be ok...

The DM600 S3's are 11.3"H x 6.9"W x 8.6"D, so they're pretty small. I guess my question really boils down to what makes a good speaker stand? I was just thinking that by using something like this I'd get the speakers the right height and gain some much needed storage at the same time.

IMHO, rigidity and lack of a tendency to vibrate, and proper height placement for your speaker.
