Cable + DishNet connection to TV?? (1 Viewer)

Hi
I currently have dish connected to Video 1 using S-video and cable via VCR to UHF/VHF input into the TV.
I would like to connect the cable to the dish receiver as well and pass them together to the TV via Video 1.
The back of my dish receiver has cable and UHF/VHF inputs. I tried plugging my cable into the cable input of the dish receiver but got nothing.
How do I pass the cable signal through the dish receiver. Do I need to set/change something on the dish receiver?
Will the cable channels also appear on Video 1 when I do that or will they appear where the regular UHF/VHF signal appears.
