Budget Universal Player (1 Viewer)

Hi all,
Pioneer sells the 656A in the UK with the ability to play DVD-Audio, SACD, and pretty much anything else you can throw at it (MP3, Progressive Scan DVD, CD-RW, VCD etc). They brand that as a Universal player and sell it for GBP 300 (about $450). It is the 'Player of the year' for What Hifi? this year. 656A in the US has everything except SACD and I have found one selling for $170 at Ultimate Electronics.

Question : Can I get a Progressive Scan Universal player in the US that plays DVD-A and SACD and doesn't break the bank?

Pioneer Elite 45A - you should get this anywhere from $400 to $500.

Sanjiv, the '45A would be the way to go. Note that the European '656A is their version of our Elite '45A. For some reason, Pioneer seemed to go out of its way to confuse matters by issuing a '656A in the US and a '656A in Europe that are not equivalent players.
