I have recently installed this card on my system, and I was wondering what is the best software to use to video capture tv shows? What I want to do is record tv shows and then put them on vcd or svcd. Is the software that came with the card the best option? And if it is, what are the best settings...I tried a "medium" quality setting for SVCD and recorded the thin man off of tcm the other night. My file wound up over 8 gigs! So if anyone has come up with any custom settings to maximize quality while fitting a one hour show on one svcd, I sure would appreciate. Thanks.

Patrick: The software included with your card should work just fine. I'd suggest recording in VCD format if you are concerned about the size -- you can fit most films on 2 VCDs. The quality isn't that great (~VHS Quality), but the size is manageable.

You can also convert the 8 gig file into a smaller size using a converter program as long as the file isn't in the ATI .vcr proprietary format. Check the file extension of your file and see.

Try Virtualdub It's a free GPL video capture & encoding program.

I've never tried to compress to S/VCD (I use divx 5), so I can't vouch that it even does that, but the program is SOLID.
