Anthem AVM 20 Owners: What AMP Are You Using? (1 Viewer)

I am considering the purchase of the Anthem AVM 20 for a dedicated home theater room that I will be building.

I am curious as to which amp owners of this pre/pro are using? While I have heard nothing but positive reviews regarding the Anthem pre/pro, I have heard some less than positive reviews regarding their amps.

Your comments are greatly appreciated!

I use the PVA 7 and am very pleased with it. I have seen no poor reviews in any magazine. The AVM and the PVA basically are a matched set.

I have an Anthem MCA-5 matched up with the AVM-20 and really am very pleased with it. I think it sounds great. I will add another two channel amp when I move to 7.1 and I might go with something a little higher end, but not out of any dissatisfaction with the Anthem...great amp for the $$$.

Five "modded" Marantz MA-700 monoblocks, with two more in storage awaiting the transition to 7.1.

I just realized that your post said AMP, not AMPs.

Thanks for the replies.

Since I am not really familiar with all the amps out there, I should have also requested that you indicate how many channels your amp has (several of you have). Also, please indicate the price paid.

Thanks again!

Rob, the MCA-5 is 5 channels at 170 WPC with all channels driven. I paid a little over $1000, but the amp listed at around $1500.

I have a Cinepro 1K2SE for the mains and a Cinepro 2K6III for the rest. Lots of clean power and a great match with the Anthem.

Like Matthew, I'm also using the Rotel RMB-1075 (120x5), plus an RB-1050 (70x2) to cover the two rear channels for 7.1. I paid $1300 for both at my local dealer.

I think the neutral sound of the AVM 20 combined with the warmth of the Rotel amps is a great combination if your tastes lean in the neutral/warm direction. Sound is smooth and clean with my M&K THX setup, outstanding for both movies and music.

I am using Rotel RB-1090 (2x380, $1700 new, $1400 used) for the mains and RMB-1095 (5x200, same price) for center sides and rears.Marc

My Parasound HCA-2205A is 220w x 5 channels. A good used price is $1400, MSRP is around $1999.

Good luck!

I have the MCA 5 (paid approx $950.00 US) matched with the AVM 20 and Paradigm 100's v2 and Studio CC. I am very happy with the sound. I intend on getting the MCA 20 when I go 7.1.

Thanks for all the responses.

It definitely looks like there is no real consensus on which amp(s) to use with this processor. I am leaning towards the MCA-5 since I probably wont be able to hear any other amp with this processor anyway.
