Alliance Canada Widescreen DVD's problem (1 Viewer)

A friend let me borrow his widescreen "BOWLING FOR CONCUMBINE" DVD and I noticed that when I played it in my Panasonic A320, the picture was displayed in full screen (1.33:1) on JVC 32" 4:3 TV). I checked it out on my Apex 500.........same thing. When I play it on my pc, you get the 16x9 playback in the proper aspect ratio.

I rented the Good Thief (1.85 DVD) today from my local video store and the same thing happens.

Anybody have any clues as to what this could be ?

Keep in mind that both are 1:85:1 titles, I don't believe that either was released in fullscreen by Alliance here in Canada.

I haven't changed any settings on either of my DVD Decks either. Its these 2 titles in question that makes me wonder if there was some kind of authoring screw up.

They are longshots but...

1. Player is in 4:3 - Pan and Scan conversion (instead of 4:3 - Widescreen)

2. Player is in 16:9 mode.

Any other "auto fit" or other such functions on either players?

yes, Lev, you were 100% correct, I found the settings mode and there was an option for TV 4:3 or widescreen.
