I've only seen clips from one of the "MGM Parade" TV shows, but it looks like a fine adaptation of the classic story.

What were the extras on the laserdisc set?

The extras on the LD are:
  • 1. Jackie Cooper's Christmas Party (1931 M-G-M Short)
    2. Peace on Earth (1939 M-G-M Cartoon)
    3. The Night Before Christmas (1941 Tom & Jerry cartoon)
    4. Judy Garland Sings "Silent Night" (1937 promotional film)
Of all the Christmas Carole movies this is my favorite.

Given that WB has been so good with their catalog titles this year, I'm giving this thread a bump.

I'm going to repeat my plea to WB. May we have the 1938 M-G-M version of "A Christmas Carole" for 2004 or 2005. PLEASE.

Looked up A Christmas Carol (1938) on the IMDb web site and the "Full Cast and Crew" page doesn't list Jackie Cooper as being in the movie.:confused: Did he have a part?

I believe that this short was just added as it was Xmas related. As far as I am aware Cooper is not in the film.

Just double-checked my laserdisc and noted the credits do not show Jackie Cooper as being in the movie A Christmas Carol, 1938. I also do not recall seeing Jackie Cooper in the film.

Well I'm bumping this up & hoping that someone at WB can champion this film & get it out on DVD this year or next.

On the laserdisc of "A Christmas Carol" they include the Technicolor print of Judy Garland singing Silent Night for the MGM Christmas trailer - and I think this is the only place that you can get it in color comercially!! So I hope that Warner releases that with it as well!!

I'd love to see all the extras from the LD on a DVD edition plus a commentary & other extras.

Given WB's affinity for boxed sets of catalog releases these days, how about this:
THE WB CLASSIC CHRISTMAS COLLECTION:
A CHRISTMAS CAROL (1938, with the Lionel Barrymore trailer as an extra)
CHRISTMAS IN CONNECTICUT (1945)
A HOLIDAY AFFAIR (1949)
--plus a bonus 4th disc containing classic Christmas-themed shorts from the Warner/MGM/RKO catalogs (though some of these could easily go on the movie discs):
* COMPLIMENTS OF THE SEASON (1930, Vitaphone short)
* THE CHRISTMAS PARTY (1931, with Jackie Cooper)
* ALIAS ST. NICK (1935, animated)
* THE PUPS CHRISTMAS (1936, Harmon-Ising cartoon)
* MGM CHRISTMAS TRAILER (1937, Judy Garland)
* THE CAPTAIN'S CHRISTMAS (1938, MGM Captain & The Kids cartoon)
* PEACE ON EARTH (1939, Harmon-Ising cartoon)
* BEDTIME FOR SNIFFLES (1940, Chuck Jones-directed cartoon)
* HOLIDAY GREETINGS 1941 (Lewis Stone)
* THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS (1941, Tom & Jerry cartoon)
* ONE HAM'S FAMILY (1943, Tex Avery-directed cartoon)
* MGM CHRISTMAS TRAILER (1945, Frank Sinatra)
* STAR IN THE NIGHT (1945, directed by Don Siegel)
* GIFT WRAPPED (1952, Sylvester & Tweety cartoon)
