Of the Warner films that featured Errol Flynn along with Olivia De Havilland, Santa Fe Trail is one of four in black and white productions. There were six in total, including Dodge City and one other in Technicolor - putting the team almost in league with the Marx Brothers. Don't try to make sense of that.
A quality western, directed by Michael Curtiz, and with a score by Max Steiner. It was shot by Sol Polito, known for his work with Mr. Flynn, and a magnificently shot Yankee Doodle Dandy - film that in original prints always gave me the feeling that I was viewing it via a magenta record, with the other two set aside.
Warner Archive's new Blu-ray has been meticulously prepared from a fine grain master, with a beautifully rendered grain structure, rich blacks and full shadow detail.
Yet another perfect Warner Archive release.
