Four decades ago, when National Lampoon's Vacation was foisted upon unwary audiences, just five years after the solemnity and righteousness of Animal House, it changed laws across these United States.

It seems that in the past, one could strap a deceased family member to the top of a vehicle like a prized deer, but soon new laws came into play.

With an attractive slipcover, emblazoned with the WB 100 logo at the upper left obverse, collectors will have one more special to add to their libraries, and sellers on the bay will have more fodder.

What has been done here is that the title and illustration have been printed atop reflective matter, with a matte finished surrounding the rest of the cover, delicately (and possibly by hand) a selective covering of gloss. Experts in the field have already come to the conclusion that this is probably a First Edition slipcover only, so best not to tarry.

As a 4k Blu-ray, the new WB release excels on all fronts. Color is rich and clear, showing no age-related artifacts, rich blacks, great skin tones, and a wonderfully velvety sheen of (presumed) grain. Nary a problem in sight.

Audio is 2.0 monaural.

Vacation remains a fun outing, and lovers of the genre can probably look forward to more Griswold 4k in the future.

I plan on picking this up at some point, but I think European Vacation is my favorite...cannot be far behind.
