But I like not being murdered at home!
They broadcast the 2016 olympics in 8K. The Directv 4K feed was a downsample from the Japanese feed (it looked great).
I’m going to the opening preview tomorrow - Keir Dullea, Dan Richter, Katharina Kubrick in person!
I'm sure you'll enjoy the heck out of it, Josh. Have fun!
The exhibit was great! Dan Richter gave a private talk to a small group of about 30 in the gallery before they opened up the exhibit to a larger preview group of several hundred. I didn’t get to see everything as closely as I would have liked (I’ll be happy to go back) but what I did see was great. Kubrick had a lot of the props and models destroyed to prevent MGM from reusing the stuff on cheap sci-fi movies and tv shows but they had the best of what survives, and some really well done reproductions. The original Star Child model is there and some of the costumes and loads of photos and correspondence. It’s a really great collection and well worth a couple hours of your time if you find yourself in the area.
Thanks for the report, I’m hoping to get over there in February.
Is that the original Star Child in your photo? It sure looks odd seeing it that way.
Yes it is! And yes it does!
For anyone in the Toronto area, 2001 is showing at Cinesphere, which I'd currently rate as the best theatre in the city, on Jan 31-Feb 2. It looks like it will be the recent "unrestored" 70mm release.
Thanks for the report Josh! That’s great you got to see that and have your photo taken with the stars! I wish that exhibit would come out to San Francisco or San Jose!
