I’ve been looking to upgrade my Pioneer CLD-503, preferably with an AC-3 ready machine. While I know of the universal affinity for Pioneer units, I’ve got a good line on a Yamaha CDV-W901.
What are your opinions on this player?

That's a rebadged Pioneer Elite CLD-59, and as such, a definite step up from the 503. If you can get it cheap, jump all over it. It will have digital effects on CLV and AC-3 and coax digital outs. The picture will probably not be significantly better, but you should see a modest improvement.

Audio Advisor still has new DVL 919's. And suprise of all surprises Theta is still making its LD/DVD unit. I was told that there is still a demand for them and Theta will make them as long as they can sell them. I haven't had time to follow up to see if Theta had plans for upgrades.
