Here's another question I have.
Not for sure whether to post here
or in receivers/amps.

Using the digital optical out from
my Toshiba DVD to my Pioneer 811,
can you still get 5.1 or in my case 7.1
sound? When I first set it up we were
not, so I went and connected the regular cables
and we were fine.
So is optical workable? I was looking forward to
losing all those cables in the back.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Aaron

Optical and coaxial will both work fine. You may need to set your dvd player to Bitstream output if it has a PCM/bitstream option.

Aaron,
Have you gone through the on screen setup and turned on the rear speakers? If your 811 is anything like my Elite VSX-37TX you need to assign the digital inputs via the on screen programming menu. Don't get too carried away getting rid of the cables! If you plan on listening to any DVD-A your going to want to stay connected to the 5.1 inputs from your DVD player to the receiver.
