I need to buy a new television for my living room. I would like buy an HDTV to future proof, and to get the higher pq with dvds and gaming. However, there seems to be a large difference in opinion concerning how some HDTVs display Standard Definition material.

I've been looking at the various 4:3 Sony, Toshiba, etc; Does anyone of these sets have an advantage over the other for SD programming.

My source will either be DISH or Direct.

Thanks
Chris

Hmm All 4:3 sets??? Modern 4:3 displays seem to handle it a little better than many of the larger widescreen displays.

What size are we talking about here, on anything 40" or smaller, it is pretty much a non factor and SD will look pretty darn good on most displays.

Most of the problem comes from attemtping to blow up only so many lines of resolution to large sizes.

In the 36 inch size the Panasonic CT-36HL44, $1,050 is the best.

In the 32 inch size the Sony KV-32HS420, $850, and the Panasonic CT-32HL44, $740, are a tie.
