We are planning on a new home theater setup in our new house and I am currently researching components. My father (the one who is buying everything) doesn't want to spend a huge amount of money and I am looking for a receiver in the $500-$600 range. ecost.com has refurbished denon 3803's and 1083p's for sale, with only a $50 dollar difference. As I have not been able to find any reviews on the 1083p, I don't know what advantages it would have. Which one would be a better buy? Also, are there any other receivers in that price range that I could get that would rival these two?

According to this thread the 1083 and the 3803 are the same unit.

There are some older threads that explain why Denon has two models numbers for most of their recievers.
Read the first reply. Stephen Hopkins goes into more detail as to why they do this.
