The wife and I were at my Xmas party on the weekend which was held in Banff. Did the customary day of shopping, and found a neat little store that had wall-to-wall diecast model cars, trucks, etc. I must admit that I had never had any interest in these, but I now seem to be quite smitten with them. I would like to start collecting some, but as in any hobby, there are some that are better values than others...

Does anyone else collect these?
Are the 1/18 scale the most "collectable" (popular, selection)?
What brands seem to be the best made and detailed? Ertl? Corgi? etc.

I am not in it for the investment side of this hobby. I just want to buy a few cars or trucks, display and enjoy them. It's kinda like DVD's...I'll buy them to enjoy, not to see what they value in the future.

Thoughts?

I think a lot of the car scales go along with the train scales which are much older. O scale is 1/48 and S is 1/64. 1/18 might be G scale. If you have a lot of room; big is great.
