    Upscaling/HDef DVD Player merged thread

I'm a little confused, can someone help? I currently use a Panasonic AE900e projector with a Harman/Kardon DVD22 player, connected via component. The projector's native resolution is 720p, so does that mean that it scales any input and outputs it at 720p? Would I see a difference if using an...

MY Home theater 2 years in the making

Looks real good Vinnie, big transformation from the original room isn't it? Love the popcorn machine! So what's the deal with needing to have the AV equipment at the back of the room anyway? Is it just an aesthetics thing? For me, my HT is my living room and I cant pull panels off...

Official Playstation 3 Blu-Ray player Thread

I hope they get this sorted by March. I'd love to pick up a PS3 when they're released here, but I won't be doing it if it can't output 720p to my Panny ae900e projector. The first BD player just hit the shelves here for NZ$3,000. PS3 is slated as being ~NZ$1,200 on release. Big difference

    HTPC, necessary?

Hi Parker, Thanks for your reply. Has your HTPC now totally replaced DVD players etc in your house? Is the quality of video and audio comparable to that of the stand-alone players? How much is dependant on the quality of the video card and dvd drive? Could you give me an idea of what...

    HTPC, necessary?

Hi all, I'm just wondering whether a HTPC is worth investing in at the moment. I currently have a small HT set up in the living room, consisting of a HK receiver/DVD player, 5:1 Infinity speakers and a Panny 900u projector and an iPod hooked into the receiver. When the PS3 is released here in...

    HT finished...pics

Wow! That is such an awesome looking room to enjoy movies in. I just mentioned to the Mrs that the next time we move house we need to ensure theres enough room to build a dedicated HT room but she wasn't keen. I then mentioned that if we were to do that she'd be able to put a TV back in the...

I can't keep up/understand specs, so need help...

Sorry to butt in, but do projectors also use these different HDMI versions or are they able to just accept whatever source they're given via HDMI? My projector has a hdmi input and runs at 720p natively, but I can't see any mention of a HDMI version.. PR

    Reducing VB (on Panny 900)

Ah ok, well I haven't yet noticed any sort of banding (though I don't know what it should look like and I haven't been looking :) ). The one single problem I have with my projector so far is that due to where I've had to position it, I can't quite get it centred to the screen. This has...

    Reducing VB (on Panny 900)

Hi Bart, I just recently purchased this projector myself and am totally loving it! Can you explain what you mean by VB? I thought it looked pretty cool myself, but thats just my untrained eyes. I run my pj off a Harmon Kardon DVD22 player using Component (sadly no HDMI output on it)...

    Dropped speaker, are they repairable?

Hi Seth, I just dropped the speaker into the shop to get it looked at. He also said it wasn't really repairable and that the whole driver needed replaced (by this i assume it means the whole cone/magnet speaker assembly?). The importers that supply them are closed saturdays so i will have to...

    Dropped speaker, are they repairable?

Just took another look and found the problem. Where as on the good speaker you can just gently press the main cone and it will move in and out silently, on the damaged one there is a kinda "scrunchy" sound and the movement in and out is very rough. Now sure whats broken/moved inside or...

    Dropped speaker, are they repairable?

Argh, so today I stupidly managed to knock one of my rear bookshelf speakers of the cabinet it was on. It landed with a sickening *THUD* and I feel realy lousy now. Not too much damage to the exterior, just a crack and a little bit of a scrape on the veneer, but after listening to it it now...

Firmware v2.0 now available -- adds TrueHD 5.1, fixes 720p output

*drool* I'm stoked that I will be able to get HD audio using my current receiver, yay! Go analog! Of course, this is only if i go with HD-DVD by the sounds of it. PS3.. hmm,,, So is there a nice simple comparison anywhere between DD/DTS/DD+/TrueHD etc ? Cheers

So what does HD mean for projector owners?

Thanks for all the reply's. Due to the setup of our lounge the seating is 2 - 2.5 screens back, with the projector mounted about 1' behind the back seats. Not sure i'd really wanna be sitting any closer anyway... I can't wait till i can get my hands on a HD player and be able to compare...

Firmware v2.0 now available -- adds TrueHD 5.1, fixes 720p output

So TrueHD over analog would be better than normal DD/DTS over digital and better than the re-encoded bitstream you mention above in digital?

So what does HD mean for projector owners?

Hi all, As the new owner of a Panasonic PT-AE900 projector I'm spending increasing amounts of time watching movies. We just moved into a new house about 5 weeks ago, and I bought the projector a week after that. I'm now at the point where I've pursuaded the Mrs that we don't need a TV in the...

    HD audio on older equipment?

Oh! Thanks for clearing that up Doug, I'd completely missed the plot there, sorry. I've never even used those analog inputs and forgot all about them. So using those connection all the receiver will do is relay the sound to the speakers and control volume? Or does it still do other funky stuff...

    HD audio on older equipment?

It has composite, but not component. Is that what you meant? Seems strange that analog is the alternative to using hdmi, can you not get any of the new stuff through optical/coaxial digital? Is it just the current BD players that dont have the ability, or will even the new ones not have this?

    HD audio on older equipment?

Hi all, My first post in these forums, I'm kinda new to the HT scene, mainly due to having family commitments etc that prevent me splashing out cash on the gear. Anyhoo, I try to get something every now and again when I see something I really like and its not too expensive (which means its...
