Thanks for replying. John, you said: 1) No. If you aren't using surround, then why have them connected to the surround connections? When connecting them to A & B, the B output may or may not allow you to use the sub with the B speakers only playing. A & B is what you want to do this, OR...
Hi all, I just got a HK AVR-240 and have a couple of questions. 1. I have two pairs of speakers hooked up as front and surround. Can I just turn on the surrounds without the fronts for listening , as you could do with receivers having only Speaker A and B buttons? I am not currently doing...
Hi all have a brand new Audioplex Speaker Level to Line Level Converter box for sale. I paid $60 plus shipping from Parts Express. It is in excellent condition and only used for a couple of days. I no longer need it since I bought a new receiver. I will consider any reasonable offer and will...
Boy, I can't believe nobody has any opinions or ideas! As a side note, can a surround sound processor be added to the main in/pre out jacks? I really like the HK 3480's look and it sells for $265 shipped from J&R. Would you guys suggest any thing else in this price range? I need a sub out on the...
Hi all, I am looking at getting a new basic receiver, mainly for 2 channel audio, but require a volume controlled subwwofer output, or 2.1. I recently looked at the HK 3480 receiver which has a sub out. Apparently, it does not have any bass management onboard. Is this a big deal, or will I do...
Hi all, I have a NAD 304 integrated amp, which is giving me some problems. The sound is very low and distorted on the right channel, and the 'soft cliping' light is staying on. The left channel woks great. Does anybody know what could be wrong, and is there anything I can do to fix it? I really...
Ok, maybe I won't do xlr. What about a clean sounding consumer grade preamp? I am assuming the Crown amp will be rather clean sounding vs. the a/v receivers. If you don't agree, what receiver would you recommend? I have heard good things about the Pioneer 1014, but I am just not happy with the...
Hi all, I am looking to go the separates route, and need some advice. I am currently looking at the Crown XLS series power amps, and need some advice for a decent but affordable preamp. I am not really concerned about a radio tuner, but phono would be nice. My budget is around $500 The amp, I...
I agree, you really just need to try it and see if it meets your needs. Movie theaters can be quite loud and requires a lot of air moement at the lowest frequencies. I thinkyour family (including kids?) might not like the volume levels that high. The Dayton sub will give you decent low end, but...
Wayne, you da man! he-he-he! All kidding aside, hooking the sub and mains together worked flawlessly. The amp seems to run just fine and the sq isn't distorted or fuzzy. Thanks again.
Thanks Wayne. Don't I have to worry about runnign the sub and mains in parallel off of the 'A' terminals? My mains are Samson Resolv 65 w/ 4ohm rating and the subwoofer driver is rated at 4 ohm. Althought the sub has its own power, does this affect anything compared to using two pairs of...
I have a Dayton Titanic MKIII sub hooked up to a basic 2 channel receiver, which does not have a sub out. I have been using the spekaer level inputs on the sub to the mains. Is there another way to hook these up? I have been hearing that speaker level inputs with high pass filters dont sound as...
No, generally subwoofer drivers designed for car use don't perform as well in home environments, they are normally designed to take advantage of 'cabin gain' in a vehicle.
If he is complaining about his system not sounding clean, crisp and especially hearing white noise, His problem is not speaker related. And if you get a professional sound card, you definitely can hook it to a receiver with excellent results. He may very well have a bad cable!
What kind of soundcard are you using? Many of the "onboard" sound chipsets aren't nearly as good as a dedicated sound card. However, as asked earlier, need more information about your problem.
For those that have heard the JBL E80, E90, and E100's, what is your impression? Is the bass good and accurate? What about the mids and treble? Are the cabinets solid?
Interesting, so does that mean you need a sub with lower extension if it is used in a larger room? I know a more capable sub is needed for higher spl's, but I am only referring to extension. Also, is it common for the bass to be muddy in small rooms? I have noticed that the bass seems to be...
I was just wondering, when it comes to a home setup, how much room gain is realistic with a corner-loaded sub? Does room size play a factor? I have a really small room, so I would figure a decent gain similar to that of a vehicle.
Well, I bougt a 20 oz. bag of poly fill and used maybe 6 oz. of it. I was rather surprised since I thought I would use alot more. However, I forgot the space taken up by the woofer, brace and plate amp. I originally had the box lined neatly on all sides except the front and back with the 2"...
