    Panasonic PTL300U and VisualApex

Hello Ron, The main PQ differences I noticed with the HS10 was slightly better presentation of blacks and shadows. However I was unable to compare with exactly the same equipment unfortunately. I should have mentioned the other big factor for me was I needed a desk set-up because our house...

    Panasonic PTL300U and VisualApex

PS - I checked out the Infocus X1 and despite the nice picture it produced, I unfortunately suffer from seeing the dreaded rainbow effect. I also checked out the Sony HS10 but I found the Panasonic to not only be cheaper but have a better picture as well (IMHO).

    Panasonic PTL300U and VisualApex

A few months ago I decided that a front projector was the way for my home theatre to move to the next level. I ended up purchasing a Panasonic PTL300U from VisualApex. I had read many favourable reviews from both magazine and internet users, and decided to import one because of considerable...

    What should I do?

I plan on buying a Panasonic PTL300U very soon. I ordered my screen early and it arrived today. It is a Da Lite Model B. Trouble is that I ordered a 16x9 92 inch diag screen. And what has turned up has the right width but is 14inches too high. Alas a 4:3 screen. My initial thoughts were...

    The Matrix Reloaded (2003)

Good movie, but not great. Whilst most of the action pieces were fantastic, there were a few scenes that took too long. Examples for me were the dancing in Zion and the discussion with the architect. I thought I was watching a director's cut. I don't believe it built on the first one as well...

    X2 (2003)

I loved X2, I enjoyed it much more than TMR. But I too cannot wait ot hear it in my home theater. It's amazing to me how loud some people can be when they eat popcorn.......

    My Yamaha RX-V730 Review

I don't know if I can really help you too much there sorry. I have heard some people hear express a preference for say 80hz. Perhaps someone else has experience with the 5.2's and crossover settings? I can tell you that I have a pair of DB Dynamics 688F for my fronts. They are known for being...

    My Yamaha RX-V730 Review

Hi - sub crossover settings are set at 90hz for both systems. They are not adjustable, which is a shame but I'll live with it.

    My Yamaha RX-V730 Review

After checking sales material, net opinions, then having a demo against some competing units, I set my sights on saving for the Yamaha RX-V630 several months ago. A few weeks ago I realised I would be able to move up to the 730. And I am sure glad I did. Sonically there is no difference...

Lucasfilm's Rick McCallum says DVD hurts box office returns.

I myself struggle to accept that studios are losing money, but then I don't have the full picture. I think some people are jumping on a 'bash' wagon when they say things like 'I will see an independant film anyday over a hollywood blockbuster because 9 times out of 10 they are better', because...

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: "Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones" (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED) (with screen

Thanks for the review Ron. Also loved the note from Van Ling. I get this and LOTR EE on the same day - Christmas comes early for me this year.

What happened to all the D-VHS hype?

Sounds like an overhyped and overpriced format to me so I will stay well away from it.

The Official LOTR: FOTR - Extended DVD Specs

Something that may interest some of you.....when I booked my copy at the local DVD store here in Wellington NZ, my name joined quite a long list, but the store clerk remarked that even more people were ordering the 5 disc version. There are obviously more people than I thought keen to get their...

Denon 1803 vs Yamaha 630 - which would you recommend for my speakers?

I'm getting a 630 next month, so my experience is purely from store auditions but from what I have learnt I believe it would have no problems driving your speakers. Don't know about the 1803's abilities though - fingers crossed someone else here has a similar setup and can help you out.

My fisrt HT setup, if I can make my mind up

Oh - and if you are still looking on the receiver front, hold off on the Denon 1802, or at least audition it against the Pioneer 811s or Yamaha 630 or higher. The 1802 is showing it's age now, and for similar dollars you can get better IMO.

My fisrt HT setup, if I can make my mind up

Hi, I picked up a pair of Db dynamics Polaris 2 just recently and couldn't be happier. I auditioned them against some B&W 305's and Wharfedale 8.4's. Unfortunately did not have a chance to rate them against the 8.3's, but I can tell you that for me the Polaris sounded a lot fuller than the...

From Dusk Till Dawn: Great first half, but...

I had no idea what this movie was about when I first saw it at the cinema. All I knew was the Clooney, Tarantino and Keitel were in it. Hey I even missed the bats on the poster ! (maybe my eyes were distracted by the huge gun barrel) But you know what - I could not have planned it better. I...

Aussie Exclusive LOTR 5 dvd collector's edition

Aussie only????? Trust me - Australia is not getting its own 'special' edition folks. They'll get the same as us in New Zealand, which just so happens to also be in R4, and an extended version that is basically the same as everyone else too. The 'this offer available to Australian...

Any RX-V630 reviews and what front speakers would go well with one?

Well luckily for me I found some reviews elsewhere, and they were quite positive on the RX-V630. So off to my favourite shop for the demo. DTS version of Gladiator had fantastic separation. DTS of Saving Private Ryan was so clear, and the DTS scene from The Haunting was down right scary (crap...

Between these receivers, which would you choose, and why?

I'd go with the Yamaha - its equivalent RX-V630 has just won the latest What Hi-Fi supertest, narrowly beating the 811 and unfortunately for the poor 1802 it was sadly lacking.

What species of spider was used for the drones in 'ARACHNOPHOBIA'?

I believe the drones were 'Avondale' spiders - they are from here in Auckland, New Zealand to be exact. There was quite a bit of publicity over here when the movie came out due to the 'stars' being from here. Incidentally they are actually quite harmless.

    Another T2 Special Edition

Well at least THIS version might make it to region 4. Which would be kinda nice for me.

Any RX-V630 reviews and what front speakers would go well with one?

Honestly - I would appreciate any 1. reviews on the RXV630 compared to simlarly priced receivers 2. any thoughts on suitable front speakers to go with it I hear that the RXV630 has been out in Australia since about March. It has only just come out here in NZ. Has it been out long in...
