Thanks for all the input. With HDMI standards still in works, should it not be better to go separates at least to keep your investment in amps not go obsolete so soon. What are the other options if I go used - other amps/pre-amps. If Rotel is not warm in that price range, what else should I...
Hi, Need advice on choosing the right electronics (open to receivers or separates) to drive a system comprising B&W805s mains, 803s center and SCM as surrounds with Velodyne DD-10 as subwoofer. 1. Usage is HT 75% and Music 25%. 2. Room size is small - 20 ft x 25 ft. 3. Very aware that...
I have a 1.5 years old Toshiba SD-4700 DVD player for sale. It is in excellent condition, works perfectly and also does DVD-Audio. Since it sits inside an enclosed entertainment center, the unit looks almost new. Selling because I have another DVD player and do not need it anymore. Price...
thanks guys, i think there was some problem with the unit itself. i got a new one and this works fine. unfortunately, i do not see any improvement in the sound quality of CDs played vis-a-vis my old Toshiba 4700. may be, i should try a denon 1600 or something for that as my primary motive...
Just got an open box RP-91. I have it connected through co-ax to my Yammy RXV-1200. The CDs play perfectly but with DVDs, there is sound skipping. The video is perfect but the sound keeps skippping once in a while. Any idea if there is some setting problem or it is a defect. In addition, when...
I agree with the choice being limited to M-7300 or Y-1300. Between the two, it totally depends on how you like your music - brighter, detailed and crisp (Yammy) or nice, warm and laid back (Marantz). Purely for HT, Yamaha would certainly be a better choice. But for music, Marantz would be my...
hi, i have used both deftech sub 100tl and 200tl. i have the procinema 100 satellites as my HT speakers for 5.1 system and my experience with the subs were as under: 200tl: for HT, it was fantastic. when you hear the roar of the tigers in gladiator fight scene and the chains rustling...
In this situation, how would the subwoofer behave? If one wants the subwoofer also to kick in for stereo music, do you need to do anything or the AV receiver would automatically send the low bass signal to sub and stereo to to the main speakers through the stereo amp.
I am running Yammy RXV-1200 with Def Tech Pro cinema series for my HT set up. I am looking at upgrading my main speakers for better 2 channel music. I plan to use the Prosub100 as the subwoofer and am looking at good quality bookshelf speakers. What would your choice be in the 500-1000...
Thanks Bob and Charles, I really appreciate your suggestions. I agree that adding an amp with the current speakers may not give me as much of an upgrade in sound quality as speaker upgrades would. So, the first step would definitely be to upgrade the speakers. Would adding an amp after...
Yes, I am using Def Tech Pro Sub100 as the subwoofer. Will the amp really improve the audio quality is what I wanted to know from people who have done lots of upgrades. If it does not because of limited capability of the receiver pre/pro itself, I would spend the money on other components -...
I am running Yammy RXV-1200 with Def Tech Procinema 100 system. Using Toshiba - 4700 as the DVD/CD player. The HT is fantastic but the 2 channel music could be better. I am just looking for what would add the maximum bang for the buck to improve the quality of 2 channel music. I am thinking...
i am yet to hear a DVD that sounds better in DD compared to DTS. DTS is much superior and the difference is fairly obvious - it is not one of those where only a hardcore audipphile can make out the difference. interesting to know that LOTR is different - but how would that be?
Hey Sanjay, I am impresed with your audio set up. Just wanted to know where did you buy the paradigms? Do you get them in India or you bought it outside? Any idea on pricing if you do get them in India? Regards,
hi matt, i have procinema 100s and i would also recommend going up to 100s for a "fuller" sound reproduction. the diference is primarily in the woofer which is 5.25" in 100s compared to 4.5" (i think) in 80s. this makes a diference, especially when playing music. the price difference is $175...
there must have been something wrong with the def tech procinema set up, as i went for them after auditioning most of the sub-sat system and pretty much found them to be the best. i am immensely happy with them - i think they are difficult to beat for HT in the same price range.
I too completely agree with Chris. I had narrowed my choices to Yammy 1200, Onkyo 676, Marantz equivalent and Denon 2802/3802. I was looking for 50/50 between music/HT. I was on a budget. General feedback I got was - "go for Denon 2802 which should be good enough". I was pretty set on going for...
Hi Rob,
This is strictly my opinion but I was not too impressed with 350's as such. I think, you would be delighted with the HT performance of your suggested set up and reasonably happy with the music performance. You could also go with 100s in the back without losing anything on performance...
Hi Keith, I have the exact set up as yours. What receiver are you running them through (Yamaha RXV-1200 for me). Love it. C2 center is absolute must. Procenter 100 is a weak link in their system I think. I fully agree with Jeff that it is the best sub-sat system in the market, especially...
In the similar price range, you could also look at Yamaha receivers as the new Y1300 series compares very favorably to Denon 3802 and Yamaha also has 50 MHz bandwidth for component video switching. Just a thought.
Hi, I was in the same situation about six months back. Incidentally, I also have Def Tech ProCinema 100s. Got the C2 center though. Do so, it would make a huge difference in HT (every bit worth it - Pro100 center is a weak link there). In fact, I also went with ProSub 200 as I was getting it...
hey guys, thanks for all the help. i think it was a problem with the disc. i got another one (Eagles) that worked well. i am waiting for the replacement for the earlier disc. however, i was not that wowed by the sound quality. it was great, no doubt, with some more instrumental sound and...
Hi, I bought this disc on Amazon a few days back. They are having a sale on their DVD-A collection (going for $14.99). Wonder whether they are selling all the defective ones and that's why the sale price.
Hey guys, Thanks a bunch. But I did change the priority in Toshiba DVD player to DVD-A as well. So, I don't think that is the issue either. Anything else that you guys think I could have missed? I sincerely hope the issue is with the DVD-A disc itself as Joey has pointed out. But only way...
Hi Paul, Yes, it is a DVD-A (music) only. Yes, the sound comes from all speakers - somewhat like what you get when with the THX logo on various discs. And I did try pressing play etc. thereafter. The display on the DVD player shows the time elapsed as the disc plays but no sound comes out...
Hi, I have a Toshiba 4700 connected to Yamaha RXV1200. It is connected through Co-ax and works very well for CDs, DVD-Vs and DTS CDs. I was trying to play a DVD-A (LA Woman - Doors) for the first time but did not get any sound. I have connected the 5.1 analog output of the DVD player to 5.1...
hi, i am running Def Tech ProCinema 100s through Yammy RXV1200. If you are looking at 80% HT, Yammy could be an excellent choice for receivers. Much better than D2802. For speakers, ProCinemas are excellent satellites. They sound fantastic and look great also. Their looks are not...
I would strongly recommend Def Tech ProMon 100s. They are awesome for the size. I found them putting out "cleaner" sound than even Paradigm minimonitors (only other speaker which came close in audio quality). But without a sub, minimonotors sounded better. Since, you would anyway be running them...
