Miguel, may I offer you some choices for DVD-A & SACD:
DVD-A:
Bjork Vespertine
Steely Dan Two Against Nature
Donald Fagen Nightfly
And if you really want to put your system through some serious changes I would suggest Morton Subotnick Vol. 1: Electronic Works/ Touch; A Sky of...
Check out the Pioneer 47Ai. It's a universal player(SACD & DVD-A) that also includes the Firewire output. Right now the only receiver that can take advantage of it's firewire output is the 49TXi, with it's firewire input.
Glad I could help ya Mike! As for my 39TX, I love it to death, but it's gotta go. The 49TXi is screaming my name and demanding that I bring it home! :-)
Hey Mike! With Pioneer Elite receivers, when the fronts are set to large the subwoofer is automatically turned off. On my 39tx I have a subwoofer setting called "Plus". This setting turns on the subwoofer to add more bass to large speakers. Check your manual and look for the "Plus" setting...

You're right on target with that one! Back then Pioneer was THE BOMB! They really had it going on between 1989-1992 with products like the LD-S2 Dedicated Laserdisc Player, CLD-97 Combi Laserdisc Player, CT-93 Cassette Deck, F-93 Tuner, PD-65 CD Player, and the TZ-9...
I have the 39TX right now, but will be getting the 49TXi when it come out this month. Anyway I'm using: Phase Tech 11.5Ts (Fronts) Phase Tech 6.5T (Center) Phase Tech 4.5Ts (Sides & Rear) Phase Tech Power 12 (Sub) soon to be replaced by SVS 20-39PC Plus Sub Ron

For me looks are everything. Take receivers for instance. A lot of people are in love with Denon receivers. I have heard them and I have no doubt that they are outstanding performers. But they are ugly as hell and for me that just takes away from my overall enjoyment of the product. And the...
I repeated the experiment again, this time I started off in the Standard 7.1 Mode with the Loudness turned off and the Tone Controls bypassed. And again the same thing happenned. After I set the levels in the Standard 7.1 Mode, I repeated the setup in Standard 5.1 Mode and again the surround...

I'm sorry, I had it backwards. First of all the problem was with the surround levels, and their levels were too low, not too high. I just edited my original post. Please read again.
And yes, I am using the built in test tones and the volume knob did rotate automatically to 0db.
Thanks for...
Every now and then I recheck my levels to make sure there evertyhing is balanced to 75db. Well today I checked them and to my surprise the surround levels according to my spl meter were 4 to 5 db too low. After some trial and error I discovered that it was the THX setting that was causing the...
