Cars are different because the physical volume of air in there is so much smaller and you get a huge boost in bass due to the vehicle's transfer function (resonance). Even a very small room really usually can't compare to the bass output you get in a car...... In my parents house, I tested...
Yeah, I've heard about that method and I tried putting the sub in the same place as my chair then walking around to see where it sounded best, but I couldn't find any sweet spots. Even the back wall sweet spot which is there with the sub in the corner disappeared when I put the subwoofer where...
Regarding the reciever, I'm using a 2 channel Denon right now. I'm only running stereo speakers but the Reciever has a summed mono subwoofer preout which I'm feeding into the Right side input on the amplifier. I don't think it matters if I plug the sub pre out into the left or right input since...
It's not producing "nothing" it's just nowhere near it was before; I would estimate that if I stand in the very back of the room against the wall it's at about 2/3 the level it was in the original room, but just about anywhere else in the room it's at 1/3 or less what it was in the first room...
Oh yeah, I can definitely see the cone moving, it's excursing quite a bit there just isn't that much sound being produced. It's almost like the bass is being cancelled out or something.....I was very careful during the move so I doubt anything was damaged but I suppose it's a possibility...
Yeah, the amp even has a phase control, I've tried it at 0 degrees, 90 degrees, and 180 degrees and it sounds pretty much the same to me at all the positions. I just leave it on 0 for the most part. The connections between the amp and the speaker haven't changed since I first built the thing...
So a few months ago I built a subwoofer using a partsexpress Titanic mkII 12" in about 5 cubic feet tuned to 23 hz or so and a 250w PE amp. When I first hooked this sub up at my parents' house after I built it, I was blown away. The walls were shaking, and I could really feel the bass hit me...
PS: about I would assume you should put your reciever in stereo mode, but i'm not sure since I currently have a headphone only/music only setup right now.
Grado is actually coming out with a new product called a "cinema headphone".

Personally, I use a pair of Beyerdynamic DT-250 80 ohm headphones. They are excellent IMO, and I picked them up for $175 or so at...
And oh yeah, another thing....
Will having more port area Give me a Higher SPL?
For instance, If I went with two 4" wide 6.3" long ports I would still be tuned to the same frequency, but I would have drastically more port area than the original single 4" x 1.6" port.
Should the SPL be about...
The Foam Plugs sound interesting, But I was planning on using screw on type PVC Endcap Plugs. I wonder if those will give me an airtight seal or not? Maybe I could something that uses an o-ring. Guess I should make a query at home depot.
In any event the box will only play test tones above...
Hello, I am trying to design an enclosure for my tempest but I need some help concerning the design and construction of the port.
My enclosure plan is very unique (IMO), it consists of 1 Adire Tempest 15" Driver and 4.75 cubic foot 3/4" MDF enclosure. I plan to have the enclosure Sealed 99% of...
Hello, I was recently told by an employee of a company that makes subs that it is a bad idea to tune a sub too low, because as the tuning frequency gets lower, distortion increases in the upper octaves. Now I was aware that you trade output in the upper octaves for extension when you decrease...
Might I reccomend something else?
I went to my local HT MEGASTORE in san antonio, called bjorns and audtioned many speakers including B&W's, klipsch references, bostons, def techs, and others. Far and away, the speakers that sounded the best to me were the Phase Technology PC 2.1's. These are...
I do not understand why you guys are making such a big deal of these frequencies under 25 hz. To my ears, anything below 25hz is basically inaudible...and those frequencies do nothing except shake the room. Am I wrong in thinking audio equipement should be more about SOUND than a weird...
Yes, apparantly there is just a bus bar on the rear of the int amp that connects the preamp to the amp section of the nad. You simply remove the bus bar and stick a crossover in the signal path.
Hello, as some of you may know I am searching for a way to high pass my main speakers in a 2 channel + Sub system that will consist of a denon dcm-270 5 disc CD changer, a NAD C350 Inetgrated amp, and a powered subwoofer with a built in 1 way low pass crossover, likely tha Adire Rava or svs...
Oh, so the rel has a two way crossover? interesting.
This helps, but only if I can figure out a way for the signal chain to flow as follows:
Source - NAD C350 Preamp - REL SUB - NAD c350 AMP
I do not know if this is possible, but I'm guessing it's not because the NAD amp probably...
Okay, apparantly the answer to my question is no, you cannot hi pass the the NAD amp without some kind of seperate external crossover. The crossover on most subs is 1 way low pass only, and the nad doesn't have any kind of hi pass filter built in as far as I know. So the only thing you could...
Hi, after some reccomendations from this board, I think I may be purchasing a NAD c350 integrated amplifer to power a pair of phase technology pc2 bookshelf speakers.
However, I would like to use an ADIRE AUDIO RAVA subwoofer in this system as well. My question is, with the NAD integrated...
I would say I use a tuner about 20% of the time, because I do enjoy listening to the radio.
I will look more closely into the NAD integrated amps however.....
BTW, I found it for only $325 online. I really cannot afford seperates, even cheap seperates like AUDIOSOURCE, this reciever seems to come close to seperates quality according to denon:
Hello, I've been strongly considering purcahsing the denon DRA-685 for my college dorm room stereo system. I will likely be using phase technology 2.1 bookshelf speakers with this reciever. Does anyone have expereince with denon stereo recievers and do you thing they put out their rated power...
Just for reference, almost all car audio sound quality enthusiasts are strong supporters of the 2 channel "forward soundstage".
Sure, if you turn your fader all the way forward you usually get crappy sound. Why?
1. You lose about 6 db because you're using half as many drivers with half as...
Is there anyone out there that's heard a morel speaker? I've had a hard time finding testimonials for them, although their outstanding performance in car audio is more well known and better documented.
Take a look http://www.morelusa.com/
The model I'm interested in goes for $490 a pair and has a frequency response rated + or - 3 db down to 40 hz.
