Starting?? These two follow each other around cyberspace like two Pit Bulls waiting to lock on to anything the other says about their respective format choices. :) At least they do it in a relatively civilzed manner compared to most other Audio fanatics. I'd just love to see a situation...
I don't know, a well recorded SACD sounds pretty exceptional to me. I'm only human so I can't hear those high ultra frequency problems that are being talked about. Someone mentioned the dynamic range of SACD. Believe me there is more dynamic range than almost any home system is capable of...
I'm quite happy with the Redbook reproduction on my Sony SCD-1 although I didn't get it at Best Buy. Maybe compared to what they carry in "stand alone" CD players the SACD units they sell arebetter as I haven't seen any really decent CD players at BB lately. Good reproduction of any format...
Anyone have this CD? 'Big Blues Extravaganza: The Best of Austin City Limits' Columbia/Legacy 65324 I'm particularly interested in the extended 6:14 cut 'Yellow Moon' done by The Neville Brothers. If you have or have heard this disc how is it? Seems to be a lot of good stuff on it.
Among the standout SACD's I've picked up recently:
Donovan 'Storyteller' Audio Fidelity AFZ 015
This is a woderful sounding Hoffman mastered comp. The music speaks for itself.
John Mayall & Friends 'Along For The Ride' Audio Fidelity AFZ 016
Great Blues with Mayall and very prominent "guest...
Just spinning the recently released Paul Simon Redbook re-masters. I haven't heard them sound this good in years. I must say the "majors" are really starting to get more out or Redbook recently. If you haven't heard them yet check 'em out. Very highly recommended (by me anyway :D ) Paul...
Telephoned Toshiba Canada this morning and was told that cap needed to fix the problem was not in stock. It would take only 4-6 WEEKS to get it.
I then phoned one of their contracted service companies that I have used before and told them the situation and quoted them the part #. They...
Do these two technologies offer a noticeable improvement in visual quality and is it worth taking the time and trouble seeking them out for that purpose? I would gladly exchange "extras" for any improvement in the visual quality of the movie itself.
Recently got a Toshiba and while I am generally satisfied with it I am a bit concerned with the 'white noise' (hiss) that is readily heard from the internal speakers when only turning the volume up to its first setting. The level is higher than I would expect and is audible from 8'-10' away...
I would greatly appreciate any pointers to sites that offer comprehensive "official" release date info. There used to be a few good ones back in my laser disc days but I have lost touch. tnx
has the rights to both the World Series of Baseball and the NFL Super Bowl. The fact that these people can't even provide us with true HDTV for the premier events is a crying shame. The useless 480p and worse broadcasting they provide shows the true disdain these people have for the viewing...
Well, If I want HDTV at all I have no choice but Rogers where I live. You're right about the PBS stuff specially the travel shows. HD is such eye candy that I wouldn't want to give it up. We can only hope for a gathering momentum in HD programming in the near future. It'll also be great when HD...
First, allow me to qualify the header question with my own circumstances to put it into proper perspective and avoid any misunderstanding. Up until a couple of years ago I had an 1989 Toshiba 52" PRTV and a first or second generation DVD player. Before that I had invested in Laser Disc. The...
Thanks to you all for your suggestions, I've bookmarked all of them. Wow, what a job it'll be checking when I want to buy a disc but, better safe than sorry! Tnx again
I've been away from this scene for a while and, after purchasing a new wide screen rptv and a new dvd player I want to start building a DVD collection again. Other than this site, which DVD review sites on the web do you recommend? Who has the most extensive review data base and offers...
I will be receiving my RPTV and DVD player soon. The setup will require 30' component video cables. I am looking for reasonably priced cables that will do a proper job. The lowest quote so far has been about $200 CDN or approx. $130 U.S. Any recommendations?
Thinking of getting a new set. This model the 50HDX82 is due out at the end of the month or beginning of september here in Canada. Any info on this TV? It is the new replacement for the 50HX81.
