Two directors respond to HTF reviews. Read what Bob Gale has to say about BTTF....

It's great to see that some of the people who actually make the films listen to the people who watch them. On the DTS DD debate, other than on a few dvd's with different masters, I have never seen any proof that DTS is clearly superior. Ususally, the blind tests and graphs show that once...

Will there be a Reign of Fire review?

Hmmm, perhaps I saw a different movie than some of you did. I thought this was perhaps the most awful movie that I saw all of last year. I was very excited about it when I went to see it at the movies and I really thought it was BAD!!! I usually like this kind of action movie but I didn't like...

    D-VHS Lower the price already!!!

I guess the question is do HDvcr's improve the viewing experience enough to justify a complete change of format, and at what price do they? If and when they hit that level then people will switch. I'm just not sure they can ever hit that level for a large number of people. Thats not to say they...

    D-VHS Lower the price already!!!

I'm sorry but I have to disagree. I do not think that there is any way that dvhs can succeed as anything other that a bit player in the market. Backward compatibility will not make any difference, anyone who would consider this format has already changed from vhs to dvd along time ago. So we are...

    D-VHS Lower the price already!!!

Ok, I was a very very early adopter of the dvd format. Back when it was nip and tuck whether the format would succeed or not. Probably most of you posting to this thread weren't around back then, but dvd survived and flourished. Now the question is why did it succeed and will HD tape survive...

How can I make my remote work through a cabinet??

Hello, I recently put my receiver in a stereo cabinet and want to find a way to make the remote work with the cabinet door shut. I have the oem remote and a pronto. Are there any inexpensive ways to do this, without leaving the door open;) Thanks Mike

    Top DVD Sales of 2001

Pearl Harbor has a broader appeal(CHICKS DIG LOVE STORIES AND BEN AFFLEK). So you got both women and men buying it, as opposed to TPM which was by far the weakest Star Wars movie and managed to annoy many Star Wars fans.

OK, I'm convinced. Seperate amplification makes a BIG difference.

Legairre, this may seem like an obvious question, but the 3300 got pretty good reviews when it was first out. I never remember reading about it being underpowered, but I have never had one. Did you ever have anyone check it out to make sure there wasn't something wrong with the amp section...

OK, I'm convinced. Seperate amplification makes a BIG difference.

I don't want to get into an argument over placebo effects, but I will say that unless your receiver amp is seriously underpowered, I'd make upgrading your amp the next to last thing on your list, just before you buy those $800 speaker wires.;)

    Repairing PS2

My PS2 got knocked on the floor and now refuses to work. It's well after the warranty has expired, and I doubt they'd cover it anyway. So, I was wondering if anyone had had any luck finding someone online who could fix these inexpensively. Thanks.

OK, I'm convinced. Seperate amplification makes a BIG difference.

I would imagine there are very few people who would argue that if your receiver is underpowered, for your speakers. That adding more power through a seperate amplifier would make it sound better, especially at higher volumes. Where the argument usually starts though, is when claims come in...

Your thoughts on Better Cables Premium Speaker Wire

You can buy a lot of different things for your home theater set up for $750. Now, I won't argue that you may be able to tell the difference between the expensive wire, and the 12 gauge wire you can buy at home depot for $40, but is the $710 worth it to you? To some people it may be, to others...

    SVS 20-39CS Review

Woohoo, I just got my 20-39cs yesterday, and installed it last night, with a little help from my 7 and 9 year olds. I have it hooked up to an old Onkyo tx-910 which has very little power, I think around 55 watts. When I did the test tones from my receiver, I found I couldn't turn the volume up...

    Okay....dts vs. dd ? ? ?

Wow a DD vs DTS discussion without anyone getting mad at one another. I think the end of the world must be approaching. Next we will be having friendly chats about the merits of buying expensive cables, and whether or not seperates are always better than receivers.

    External amplification: I'm convinced

Mike you make it sound like the people who question how much better seperates are have never listened to seperates. You are incorrect, I have not only listened to separates many times, I have owned separates, and have gone back to integrated. I did not find the improvement to be worth the...

    External amplification: I'm convinced

"I find it interesting that a majority of those who have actually upgraded their amps have experienced a benefit, while those who have not give generalizations of why it shouldn't be so." Hehe, so you mean its only the people who have already spent lots of money upgrading their system, who find...

    External amplification: I'm convinced

Hmm, I dont think anyone here has claimed that integrated units are the same as seperates, but maybe I missed that post. What is being said by a couple of people here is #1 Some top end integrated units are better than some lower end seperates. #2 If you are still using your receiver for a...

    External amplification: I'm convinced

Wow Alex,in my opinion your last comments really went beyond a friendly conversation. Why are some of you all so threatened by Jaleel comments about this subject. If you think it sounds better than buy it. But before I told someone to go out and spend thousands of dollars to upgrade the system...

She finds the SVS after 11 days.

My favorite comments are, My girlfriend is great, she lets me get whatever I want, or My girlfriend loves my hometheater equiptment as much as I do,or My girlfriend says when we get married she won't care what I buy as long as it makes me happy. VS. I snuck the svs into the basement before my...

Will Best Buy match an online sale?

Sears matched prices for me last winter on my mitsubishi tv. However, that was in store, if you are quoting from their web site/internet sales department, they seem to have different policies then there BM stores do. Regardless, it doesn't hurt to ask a salesman, and if he won't do it, ask to...

    Bass shaker question

Bass shakers are thingies that you attach to some piece of furniture you own. You then split your subwoofer output, run 1 wire to your sub, then the other to an old receiver or amplifier, then run the speaker wire to the bass shaker. When it receives the signal from the subwoofer it shakes...

Are EX and ES that much better?

I have a 7.1 system and I like it very much. I had a 5.1 system, then added the extra speaker in the back and immediately noticed an improvement. I built a new house and got dipole/bipole speakers for the 2 rear side speakers, but I didn't like them and went back to the direct radiating ones...

Driving unpowered subwoofer with extra amp channels

I'm not sure about how to use your existing receiver to power your subwoofer, but it was my understanding from the SVS website that there subwoofers could be driven by any old receiver, 80 to 100 watts with no problem. I have an old onkyo 910 that I'm thinking about using to drive a SVS sub...

    Bass shaker amplification

I just bought a set of bass shakers from Ubid, but they do not come with an amplifier. What is the cheapest/best way to make these puppies rock the house? ;-) Also, will 1 amp drive both, or do I need two? Thanks
