Apologies for the off-topic post, but I figure most of the people I remember and still remember me, would be looking at this section.
So, I have thought about whether or not to post this for many weeks, not for sympathy mind you, but just to let some old friends know about the journey I have...
While a rarely post anymore there rare instances of a topic that has inspired me to share a thought or refection. Kino Lorber's new Blu-ray edition of Last of the Dogmen is such a topic. As I have not seen a thread for this recent release from Kino Lorber (surprisingly), I will share a post I...
If one saw an earlier thread I posted asking for comments on non-OLED TVs above 80", you will see that my thought process rapidly evolved from non-OLED to OLED. The reason boiled down to one simple thing. The TV I have been using was the Sony X950H, fully calibrated. For those unfamiliar...
Released in Germany by Turbine Media. I would post some comments after sampling this disc, but I can't stand it any longer. I'm warming the Whirly Pop and preparing to watch this completely.
Will be curious to read other's comments. At the moment, I am nearly speechless.
Nearly.
Although I...
Our neighbors on the other side of the Pacific have a very nice piece of art for their edition of the new ID4 remaster. No reason they should keep that to themselves...
This was a toughy. Almost no high quality elements out there to work from. After two weeks of trial and trial, managed to come up with something I was happy to print out. Specs are for the Australian disc, which has a surprisingly nice looking transfer, but only lossy DD 2.0 audio. Also...
John Wayne's 1976 swan song, and what many consider among the best of the Duke's westerns, The Shootist, has been released on Blu-ray in Germany with a fairly amazing 1.85:1 widescreen transfer. I had forgotten the stature of the cast in this film, but it has been a real pleasure to revisit The...
Studio Canal has released a remarkably fine transfer of the 1970 western, Soldier Blue, in Australia and some European territories. This was one of the early western genre films some refer to as "revisionist". Perhaps it would do us well to try to remember our actual history on the post-Civil...
Okay, here's something that may be of use or may not. Released in France with a decent transfer, but no English subtitles. FYI, there is a LOT of Chinese dialog in this movie. Subtitles for the Chinese dialog is a must.
How do I know there is a LOT of Chinese dialog that needs to be subtitled...
But not Twilight Time's butt-ugly cover.
Memo to Twilight Time; I understand how difficult it is to create an interesting cover for two different films within the constraints of the dimensions of a Blu-ray case, but your cover for the Support Your Local Sheriff/Gunfighter is...
I haven't had a lot of cover making time of late, but there is no way this was not going to get done. Even if it takes all day. Which it did.
I fully understand Xanadu is not a "good" movie, but I do really like the soundtrack. As for the movie, it will always have a place in my collection for...
Working on filling some holes in my Eastwood collection...
This is a re-do of a cover I did for The Outlaw Josey Wales a while back. I've learned a couple of things since my first effort and thought it was due for a refresh...
These next two are the first I've made for these films. Pale...
Here is the second of this sort of cover I've done for a double feature (Dr. Goldfoot was the first), and I freely admit the only reason I made this was to use this pic of Raquel...
I haven't had as much time for covers in the past few months (new job), but I have been able to get a few done. This one kind of came together late last night and I finished it up this morning...
I ran across some art for Stargate that I had not seen before and I felt was rather more interesting than the original one sheet. Decided to create an alternate cover.
This is a bit different for me. I've never made a cover without a "conventional" back. I decided I wanted a single case for the two Dr. Goldfoot films, but after looking at the one sheet art, didn't want to lose anything (one can never have too many gold bikinis). So, this was born...
Made to replace the digibook case. Remade front image to match the digibook without the blue banner at the top. Used studio back from the standard case with a custom spine.
Artwork for The Fifth Element is, mostly, surprisingly uninspired. Sony's art for the 4K remaster is about as good as I have found. I made a single disc cover using the art from the "standard" release with specs from the "Cinema Series" .
