City of Lost Children - one of the best movies visually and mood-wise ever created
Matrix - "a home theater sound demo disc"
Toy Story II - "a home theater video demo disc" :)
Called Marantz and the tech. representative was just as confused as I was... said it shouldn't be the case, but didn't really sound convincing...
Anyone?
I got a B-stock Marantz 18EX from Cambridge Soundworks, last one they had. All the literature I found on Marantz website specifies 18EX as having 192kHz/24-bit decoding. However, the manual that came with my unit lists "96 kHz/ 24 bit decoding for highest possible fidelity and bandwidth, and...
When I change volume on my Marantz 18EX, both by rotating the knob and by using the remote (which does not rotate the knob), I hear audible pretty high-pitch clicks in the speakers. They stop when I stop changing the volume. Most noticable when I change volume fast.
Is this something known...
I live in an apartment, so of course it may change in the future. I have a relatively large living room (but probably relatively small by house standards..) My front speakers can be 6 ft apart and somewhat away from the wall. The situation for the rears is worse. The couch is all the way to the...
I haven't compared CDM7NT to CM4... only CDM1NT. Perhaps a mistake, but I reckoned $2000 (before any possible discount) for the front pair, no matter how you look at it, just puts it out of my budget, period...
Still trying to figure out what to do with the amp regarding buying it online...
Hello,
I've been listening and cross-comparing speakers for my first home theater setup. I think after auditing KEF Q's, Dynaudio Audience, Monitor Gold series, and B&W's I'm leaning to B&W's CM series (CM4 floorstanding) - not as high-harsh and much more bass than CDM1 NT, yet seems like...
Howard,
In comparison with relatively new Toshiba and Sony, 3910 was just slightly worse (although significantly worse when using S-Video - note, the important combination here is the player _and my TV_ (which is Sony digital XBR), since the TV just did a significantly better job with the...
_WOW_
People told me - I should've listened. But you gotta understand, with the remaining useful life of a VCR, diminishing with every passing hour, I just couldn't make myself spend much $$ on it!
Anyway, I gave in and bought a 7900. That was it! All the problems - gone. Video playback...
Howard, to sum up, it's not bad, no. EP is very bad but just don't use it; it's bad on any VCR. SVHS is clearly better than any VHS even on this, lower-end model. The original (rental) tape playback is slightly worse than a couple other VCRs I compared it with, which seem to smooth out and hide...
Alright, I performed one more important "sanity check" - took my JVC to a friend's (and neighbour) place to see the difference a) between S and Composite on his 27" non-digital ~3 yr old Toshiba Cinema series set, and b) between JVC and his ~3 yr old very good Toshiba VHS VCR on original movie...
I have calibrated my Wega with Avia, both in service and user menus (though, on component inputs only(!))
Is it possible that I'm complaining with no merit? I ran more experiments, and completely befuddling to me, I seem to prefer -although the difference seems almost insignificant!- composite...
I'm clearly observing this and I cannot come up with a good explanation. I am hooking up a JVC 3910 SVHS VCR to my (digital) HS20 Wega via cable, composite, and S-Video outputs, trying to compare between them. The signal into the VCR is just a decent enough quality analog cable. What I see is a...
Thanks. I know all about them (watching my friend put on quite a few pounds since getting his TiVo... not that correlation is proven or anything :) )
I live in an apartment, and although I haven't verified, it's pretty likely I don't have a direct view to the satellite from my patio :frowning...
I have... at vanns.com so it seems I would be able to return it no problem.
I'm not upgrading from any VCR, I'm buying my first one. I figured for such little money, and for such rare use as VCR would have (comp. to DVD), OK-quality S-VHS will suffice... This, of course, based on a number of...
