The burner will work. It will be a lot slower. Acer's website states that their 24X usb2 burner will run as a 6x burner on usb1. Looks like you will have to shell out the extra $ for the pcmcia card unless your willing to wait 30 mins to burn a cd.

Did you check your speaker wiring? If you are using bare wire, make sure that it does not touch the recivers chasis. This can cause a short and produce unexpected results.
